Beautiful shot Aiden - the pose is excellent, the background looks great and you have a very interesting (albeit large) perch. Well done.
I was also thinking of the perch size relative to the bird, but the lichen make it much more "acceptable" to me. :) I think overall it's a very pleasing image Aidan! Well done mate, and in YOUR backyard too! Cool!
Thanks guys! I agree the perch is a bit large. The sparrows don't like coming off the ground, let alone onto a thin perch, so I usually choose a thicker perch that they are more likely to land on.
I don't have a problem with the thick perch, covered as it is with lichens. I do wish just a bit more of the bird were in sharp focus. Perhaps you'd like to create another shot with the bird more in profile, or perhaps a pose similar to this one but with a narrower aperture. Thank you for this good shot, and thank you for the instructive companion photo showing your setup.
Very nice Aidan. perfect bird angle and placement of the subject in the frame. I do like the perch a lot.
Great image Aidan! I like the lichens on the perch and the pose too. I go through a lot of masking tape doing these set-ups.
