Without anything much more exotic around here most of the time, I continue to practice on the local gulls. This juvenile Ring-billed bounced once on approach before settling onto the water, shortly before sunset one day last week. Could have used more SS and/or DOF to get the wings sharper. C&C appreciated.

Really nice sharpness, exp, and detail Bill! I really like the bg with this particular plumage color on the ring-bill! Good feet too!
Love the pose, looks like it is jumping on water :D The splash behind is a plus too.
What I like most is the background, I think it goes well with the gull, not sure about the bubble though.
Bill, I like the folded legs from the 'bounce' in the water. Good display of the extended wing, and that large bubble catches my eye. Not a bad thing, but just wondering how it came about.;)

Thanks Dan, Thanaboon, Stuart and Troy. I did have more room at the bottom, but cropped there to eliminate a distracting white reflection below. I agree it's a bit tight, and perhaps could have cropped lower and cloned out the reflection. As to the bubble - I did evict several small dark spots in the water, but decided to leave the bubble; not sure why since it doesn't really add anything relevant.
Hi Bill You did well with the exposure in that light, like the bounce and plumage detail as well as the defenition in the wing. Nice sharp image all round.
Bill, I love this image. The lighting on the bird, the pose and especially the action frozen here are all superb. The water is stunning as well. Nice detail and sharpness. I could do without the bubble.
