I continually try to stop myself from taking images of these species, yet never manage it.
I just wish I could get something reasonable of something else.
Taken in Mikumi Game Reserve, Tanzania, 2nd September 2010, on a rather overcast day.

You must have been very close to get such shallow DOF. Still sharp where needed to be and nicely posed. I think the soft light works with this shot. :)

Ken, colours look natural, and good to see him in the open. They seemed a bit scarce on my recent visit to kruger. The ones I saw, didnt give me the opportunities I wanted.

Hard to pass up an opportunity to photograph one of these beauties Ken! I like the even light and the sharpness. This is a challenging crop because the bird is so wide in the frame. I do think I'd add some canvas to expand the LLC a little.

Amazing plumage and colours. If we had these in this corner of the world I wouldn't be passing them up either!! The thick white eyebrow and scrubby white "beard" give it an older fella look. Too bad you didn't have the opportunity to get higher in the vehicle to get an all-beige BG.

Wonderful colors and great background too. Love the pose. Agree with Doug that it's a bit tight in LLC.
Congrats. JR

Very nice image gorgeous colours, I don't think many people would pass up on the opportunity to photograph one of these birds. I would have likedthe image even more had the tail been in focus.

Thanks for all of the kind comments, I will continue taking them whenever I have the opportunity. Especially if the light is soft or in the right direction to show the beautiful and subtle colours.
I'll look at the crop again
Stuart,
Shocked to her about Kruger normally you see them everywhere and they rarely fly away.
