Fantastic detail on this bird, Jeff, and the BG is very nice. There will be complaints about the perch being out-of-proportion to the bird, but what can you do...
I would probably have cropped this tighter if it were mine, but that is a personal preference. Overall, a lovely image.

This is a very nice image. The detail is great. The perch doesn't bother me. Y0ou take what you can get.
Bird: cute, sharp, and perfect. Good head angle. BKGR: pleasing. Light: soft and nice. Perch: not good :) Was the bird coming to seed?
If anything, crouching down to the bird's level would have helped in two ways: it would have eliminated the merge of the tail with the wooden block and presented only the face of the block making the perch seem more attractive.
Thanks all.
Artie, If I remember correctly this little one was sitting on a bench. I will try to remember to get lower next time.
Hi Jeff, It is not a matter of remembering; it is a matter of analyzing situations as you look through the viewfinder and choosing the best perspective :) Studying the chapter on Advanced Composition and Image Design in ABP II is a great place to start as is critiquing every image that you look at here on BPN :)
Interesting shape to the little guy, and I like the pose, detail and sharpness. Lovely colours in the BG too.
