I wish the far bank didn't cut across it's wings
I haven't posted in this forum for awhile-just needed a break. I did look at everyone's images and as always you guys are posting some great stuff.

Denise:
Lovely colors in the water and shore. Excellent full up wing pose, with great exposure on the whites, good sense of action from splash and pose.
Perhaps a bit sharper on head/eye. I suspect your focus point was back on the body or wings? I have trouble staying on a swan's head when they are moving.
Perhaps just a bit of CW rotation.
Cheers
Always fun to see you posting on Avian.

Hi Denise,
I really like this image. I am ok with the bank cutting across the wings. Although a higher perspective might have helped with that, I prefer the lower perspective. The pose & action is wonderful with good exposure. I agree with the CW rotation. It looks like you shot this along the Madison River in YNP. TFS.

Better across the wings than across the neck or head! Good action and exposure. Love the warm tones of the BG.

Nice action. I like the water behind the swan and the warm background colors.

Denise , I like the wing position and the BG colors in this one. You did a great job with exposure here.

One thing that happens to me when photographing white birds in the setting sun is that I end up with a yellow'ish hue in the whites. I'ld love to hear how you avoided this from happening here as the whites look really nice in this image, and I'ld like to know how to do it too! :D

Great jobs on the whites in this light without frying them :)
Love the taking off pose, wing position and everything looks perfectly sharp to me.
Looks like it could use a bit of CW rotation and I'd tone down those yellows in the background grasses.

Thank you all for the feedback. I will look into a rotation but...
Jim, I think you are right about the BG grasses. Thanks.
Andrew, Yes this was captured at the Madison River in YNP. I should have put that in the post. Thanks.
Mark, I took this image in the morning and the trees on the bank were shading parts of the water. I usually shoot in AWB. In LR3 I make any color tweaks. Sometimes I like the color tones to reflect what I saw out in the field and will leave the temperature a little warm, IMO that is okay. I try to expose as far to the right as possible w/o any blinkies. Once I set my exposure I watch for the any lighting changes and adjust accordingly. I checked out your blog and you have some nice shorebirds posted.:)

Hi Denise, good take off posture, and I like the extended neck of the swan. Well exposed, and the wings intersecting the bank doesnt bother me here. Well captured.

Thanks for the info Denise, glad you like the images.
I've been trying to photograph in manual mode with the shorebirds, but I'm finding that when they move around so much it can change the exposure by up to 2/3 of a stop. In those cases the frustration sets in and I go back to Av mode! :D

i have no issues with the far bank at all. the gracefulness of the swan and the overall comp makes up for what appears (in your opinion) to be a negative point. It's fine by me. :)
