One good Aperture Priority Question deserves another...resettng

I was out with my 7D and 100-400 EF lens. i was shooting in Aperture Priority mode and noticed that after every series of shots the aperture reset to whatever the minimum one for that focal length was. if I was at 300mm it would drop back to f5.6 even though I may have just set it to 11. While I was firing it would hold, but as soon as the camera went to sleep, it would reset. Is there a menu setting somewhere to address this? Any thoughts?

(It was about as frustrating as the mode dial spinning when it would rub against my hip. Maybe if I keep saying it - canon will finally put in a locking wheel - one can hope!)

I had similar problem with my Sony and factory rep had me reset my camera to defaults and it fixed the problem. I don't know about the 7d.

Yeah, was out shooting Saturday with two bodies on a Black Rapid strap & I had to keep checking the dial to make sure they hadn't moved - and they did quite often. Very frustrating.

Are you using one of the Custom Settings (C1, C2, C3)?
Once you go to a Custom Setting, you can override the settings but every time the camera goes to sleep (by default after one minute of idle time),
it will revert to the Custom Settings when it wakes up.
If you want to avoid this, you could disable the "Auto Power Off" feature.
