Great pose and background. Only nit is the focus seems to be on the shoulder rather than the eye. Perhaps another round of selective sharpening?
Great close-up! The green BG really makes the heron stand out.
A good image but a lousy identification. It is a Black-crowned Night-heron (Nycticorax nycticorax)
Great portrait Dumay. Exposure and detail is prefect. Like the eye and bg. Are you in PTA at the moment ?
You are incorrect Dave...These are the breeding colours of the Green Back Heron (Butorides striata) , This one had red legs and red cere and the bill goes black...Black Crowned Night Herons legs do not go red, they are yellow neither does the cere...Its not even that close in appearance to the GBH.
Dumay:
Lovely colors, really like the texture of feathers, particularly on the shoulder. Agree with Peter about the head angle. Soft lighting really helps here.
I would put in a plea for people to be kind/thoughtful in their critiques. If there is a question about an ID, feel free to question the original poster, but please state what you see that makes you feel that the original ID was wrong. A polite exchange often really helps the other viewers learn about certain birds and how to ID them. Civility is a wonderful thing, esp. when you can't read the persons facial expression or body language, to gauge their tone, so to speak.
Cheers!
Randy
Well said by Randy. As for the superb image, I love it. The sweet light and BKGR, the really handsome bird, great sharpness, the red lores, and the snazzy malar streak. Dumay, can you share the scientific name of this bird with us? I want to see it it is the same as our Green Heron (formerly Green-backed Heron).
You got close enough to open up the option of this closeup. Perhaps moving in took time and effort; if so, I salute you.
Great colours and comp. Love the fiery eye and the head tilted slightly upwards really adds a lot here!! HA could have been slightly better, but still OK as is.
Dumay, terrific details. As others have said, a little head turn would have made it better. definitely.
Thanks Peter. I do believe that they are con-specific (whatever that means) :)
