One more from Jamaica Bay about 3 weeks ago. Was lying in the mud, focusing more on the yellowlegs, dowitchers and plovers in the East Pond before I realized that these guys were running all around me, sometimes inside my min. focusing distance. Managed to get a few shots on an atypical grassy spot. Given their proximity I could have used another stop down.

Bill, Good self critique. I like the pose and the fact that you got the grass all around. Most of mine are 1/2 mud etc. I was out early this morning shooting these guys again. I just love them.

The grass (er, herbe) looks great!! Awesome low angle, and love the walking pose. I don't think you needed to stop down...DOF looks fine to me, even if there is a bit of a fallout at tail-tip and legs (important parts are sharp). There is a faint pale brownish smudge above the bird's head that could be eliminated to give the BG a cleaner finish, if you wish.
Thanks Denise, Grace, Mike and Daniel. I did clean some mud off the bill, along with a spot on the grass and an oof white blob (swan feather?) in the bg; but I missed the brown smudge. I'll fix that in the master file. Thanks for looking.
Love the low vantage point, the HA, the action of the step and the setting. You could get away with calling this "Sandpiper on Golf Course". :)
Agree, that you could have used a tad more DOF, but it does not detract anything for me.
