Here is my first posting for this weeks chiaroscuro theme. This is an older image I had taken few years ago and the settings were -
40D, 70-200 F4 IS + 1.4x @ 98mm hand held
1/800 sec, f/8 Mode: Av Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: -2/3 ISO: 400
I wish it was a lower angle but I did not have the room to go any lower. Adjusted exposure and black in ACR. Used adjustment layers for saturation, levels and selective colors. Applied usm on the final web version. Your C&C will be appreciated...
Indranil, It looks like a slight blue cast on the belly and neck. I love the raised crest and flowing feathers. I wonder if toning down the whites would add to the theme more? Very nice pose.
I was surprised to see so few hot white pixels but the image is far too contrasty to be successful. With a 100% Linear Burn there were still detail-less whites while lots of the bright whites were too gray.... I do like the raised crest and the foot but not the fact that the bird is angling away from you.

Artie, I went back to the ACR and redid the 'exposure' and 'recover' to get some of the details back. But just as you said, compositionally as the bird is angling away, it probably does not stand even if I am able to recover details. Here is the repose with the recovered details. Thanks again for the feedback.
Indranil, the repost is better and you did a good job on the technique. It is very important with this technique to keep the peak whites in check so slightly underexposing is the way to go. Very nice feather display.

Like your repost Indranil, might try a gradient going from dark to light, R to L, to enhance the CS look.
