standing out from the crowd

Image taken some years ago and I had done this pp work soon afterwards. I have no recollection of what I did but as I didn't own any add on filters it would have been made with layers, desaturating the background and masking back the impala female at the front and gave her some more saturation. It looks as if I used the diffuse glow photoshop filter. Anyway, I found it during a search for something else so thought I'd post it to see what people thought. Looking at it now, I think maybe I should drop back the colour on the female, but then she would blend in more... :confused:

Hilary, I really like the look and feel of this image. The colors are lovely and I like the way the one female stands out from the rest. I think you have a good idea with the saturation on that one, and you can probably cut it back a little without losing the isolated look. She looks sharper than the others and that helps too. Very nice!

Thanks Kerry, I might try another shot at it with a lower saturation and see how it goes.

HI Hilary - love the pano crop and the soft blur of the BG impala's - just toning down the colours on the front one a little would be a improvement - IMHO.

Neat image, Hillary! From a compositional standpoint, it would have been nice to have seen the lower half of the body as well but I do get a sense of intimacy from her being so close to the frame's edge. If you could, I'd either go back and add a little to the top so the half-chopped head of the one animal were either all in or all out (just above the main animal at the top of the frame.)

Nice work, Hillary. I do like the composition and the focal point created by the one in front. I agree that a little less saturation for her might work.

I like it just as it is, but I think it wouldn't hurt to desat the doe a little. I like that she is the only one looking directly at the camera (except for the one in the upper left corner) - Great catch!

Really like the pano crop Hilary and vote for a little less saturation. Just a hint would do it I think. I was reading about your 7D, did you ever find out what the problem was?

Thanks Jackie, yes I had set my shutter button to exposure lock instead of AF lock. Can't remember doing it but I had been making lots of adjustments and must have done it then. But now I know a lot more about my camera so it is all good! Thanks for asking. :)
