Hey guys,
I was checking MKIV and 500 with my usual testing setup, at first I had a tough time getting the sharpness that I like, thought was a MA issue but the screen image looked sharp during live view, RAW file was soft post capture!!! normally there should not be any mirror vibration effect at 1/400 sec but turning on MLU produced sharp images. Tried at least 10 times, the same thing. There is mirror vibration at 1/400sec that affects sharpness when TC is attached! Unless there is some strange resonance with my tripod setup, very unlikely. Tried with the 5DMKII, no mirror vibration down to 1/50 sec, at 1/30sec start to see some softening.
Is this normal for MKIV? Has anybody tested this before?
Interesting and the test is very telling. The main variable that comes to mind is the sensor size. I am not suggesting they are related just looking for information?
Wish you had the older model and could base-line it as well.
Have you seen the thread in the Ed Forum on tripod techniques - maybe try it and see if it fills any gaps - just for the sake of curiosity.

Arash,
The recoil on the 1D series bodies is quite large compared to the consumer bodies because of the high frame rate. So one will have more issues with mirror bounce with the 1D bodies. In your test, I assume you were not touching the camera in both tests? Good long lens nands on technique will dampen and mitigate the problem to some degree. Check out the long lens thread in the tutorials and educational resources section.
