Holga Effect

I thought I would try out one of the links to the tutorials in the Upcoming Themes post for the Holga Camera. I used a square crop as suggested and added a lens correction vignette and gaussian blur. Converted to B&W.:) I hop I replicated the look. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I am still trying to figure out the Holga Effect (I am one step behind all of you that post here:(). However, I really like the image. Not because of an effect but I like the composition, the wing position, the detail in the feathers, the eye contact, the water droplet off the bill. I often don't think black and white works for wildlife but in this instance I think it does.

After doing a search on Web for Holga effect, I think this is a nice example of the effect, water drops and wing detail rock..TFS

Denise, This is a wonderful photo - great composition and pose. I think it's way too good to be a Holga. :D My thoughts are that a Holga should be blurry, lots of vignetting, bad color (if in color) with light leaks. But, I'm still reading up so am probably way off base.

Patti, I did add a heavy vignette and some gaussian blur to the image(which killed me:p)Not sure how to do light leaks but I do plan on a repost so any helpful tips would be appreciated.:)Thanks.

I couldn't tell. It looked so sharp to me - in all the wing feathers and the eye.

:D I know what you mean. It killed me too. I had to remove the blur from the eye and head area - couldn't leave that blurry. This Holga look just goes against the grain. We strive for sharp photos with good color balance. We buy expensive lenses that do not vignette and expensive cameras that don't leak light. And then we recreate the inexpensive, plastic Holga camera look. :confused::confused: Too funny. :) Anyway, it might not make sense to me, but it's fun!

Nice pose, Denise, though it feels rather cut off to me on the right side and a bit tight on the bottom. I think this week will stretch all of us quite a bit. :)

Denise, this is a really nice capture! It might even be too good!! I would add even more vignetting to make it look more "plastic box". ;)
