Aquatech Soft Lens Hood

Does anyone have any experience of using an Aquatech Soft Lens Hood?

Good question Dave, having this would be nice with smaller bags for big lenses where the hoods don't fit

I'm also interested in feedback. Those big (and expensive) hoods can definitely be a pain at packing time.

I use the lens caps from Aquatech for my 300 and 500. The are good quality rubber and easy to attach. Aquatech makes nice products.
Sorry, no experience with the soft lens hoods.

Chas has one for a 300mm 2.8 and loves it, I will ask him to comment. It is strong and packs well.

I just shot black bears with Chas for four days--with the Aquatech hood on my 600. It worked great and made travelling easier...

Thanks for the follow-up, I know Chas liked his and I want one too. Easy to pack, light and very durable. Hope you post some pictures in the wildlife forum.

The AquaTech hoods come in two sizes and really help with packing.

Thanks Clemens. I bought a Don Zeck lens cap for my Canon 600mm when they were first introduced but it falls off very easily so I made a strap to hold it in position.

The Aquatech one looks very good. Does it stay on the lens or does it fall off easily?

I use a soft hood on a 400 2.8 now - since Nikon won't/can't send me the parts to repair my OEM hood. I personally don't like it was well as the OEM hood, but it does it's job and is much easier to put in a pack/bag.

One other thought about the Aquatech soft hood - when it is drizzling, the cloth that is the main part of the hood soaks up water, and you can't dry it off with a paper towel like the OEM hood. But yes, it was still working in the drizzle! Just something else to dry out that evening...
