I was out shooting these guys for several hours when I they finally started this activity on this perch, I realize the sun was getting a little harsh at this time. 600mm tripod mounted, f 7.1, SS 1/4000, ISO 400.

Good exp and Bg. Could use anther round of USM. Also some noise visible under left wing and tip of tail
Pose and timing: spectacular. Perch: very nice. BKGR: pleasing. Light angle: less than ideal but had you moved left the birds would have been obviously blocked by the perch.... There is almost no detail in the males eye and the females eyes are brown mush--it looks as if she had her eyes closed. IAC, for the repost I lightened the shadowed areas on the male's face and head and selectively sharpened the heads of both birds.
Best solution: fill flash at a high level--start with ETTL at zero, would have lightened the shadows and likely have provided more detail in the eyes.
Nick, Nice action captured. I agree w/ you that the lighting was getting a bit harsh. I think the whites look a little bright esp. the underside of the tail area. I do wish the eye was more defined. Very nice underwing details and the BG is great!:) I think that you did a great job composing the shot. Congrats!
(sorry for any repeats-we all posted at the same time)
Nick, Where in NJ are you?
It must have happened all so fast. Kudos to you for being quick enough to think, compose and execute. You cannot always plan everything. I know harsh light would not stop me. :D Well done mate. Good work!
Great work Nick! You will soon be top gun at CamNat's.

Thanks gang. Artie I am in central Jersey about 30 minutes from Manhattan. Thanks for the rework, looks better. The only one I have in the sequence that her eyes were more clear is when he was flying away, I will try to post that one tomorrow. thanks again for all your comments.
Harsh light aside , still an opportunity not to pass up. Small flaws considering the situation and time of day. great behavior. Even capture the "kiss".:);)
YAW Nick. I look forward to seeing the next one of them. joe: I think that he was trying to bite her head but missed!
