Have 1DIV: Which to sell - 7D or 5D2?

Everyone knew this thread was on the horizon; I am leaning towards selling the 7D and keeping the full frame 5D2. The main reason I would keep the 7D is to have a backup "high frame speed" body. Which would you sell; I am definitley not going to carry three bodies.

In the field as a general proposition I would have the 300 f/2.8 with extenders on the 1D4 and the 70-200 f/4 or the 24-105 f/4 on the second body.

As an aside I am studiously working through my South America/Antarctica images while still a student of the new CS5.

Sell the 7D !!

I agree, keep all 3. They each have a different sensor size and are different beasts as a result. The 7D/5DII/1DmkIV combo has to be just about unbeatable these days.

I agree with Chris & John... Keep all 3! Each camera brings something slightly different "to be table" and gives you an enormous amount of flexibility. And to have all of those options available depending on your needs, all I can say is "WOW"!!

From a personal standpoint, I seriously doubt I'll ever sell my 7D.

Not sure here, can you or will you actually use all three bodies. When you pay 5K for a camera rated like the MKIV you will want to use it more often than not. Since the 5D is full frame and the C & H sensors have different crop factors better for bird photography, if you shot often and diverse - keep em all.

One of those questions with no right or wrong answers.

As a suggestion why not keep three for a while and see which camera/s you use and prefer and then decide.

Three cameras with different sensors sizes sizes sounds confusing to me.

If me, I would keep the Mark4 and one other depending depending on my preference for birds or landscapes and in the end I'll probably end up using the Mk4 all the time.

The 5-megapixel difference between the 1D Mark IV and the 5D is not that much The Canon EF 16-35/2.8L II or 24-105/4L are corner challenged on the 5D but not on the 1.3x crop sensor on the MK IV. Sell the 5D.

I was thinking about your plight today and took both the 7D & MKIV with me in the field. I hooked the MKIV to the 500MM/Gitzo 3530LS and the 7D to my 400 f/5.6. I was thinking the difference between the 1.3 & 1.6 is .30. Then I said, wow, that is like added a 1.3 TC on every lens. The 5D being full frame is great for landscapes, portraits and things of this nature - keep em all!

Jay I have the exact same problem as you, and I partially blame you for getting me thinking about the IV and I also partially blame Artie for his exceptional use of the IV in his news letters!

Terrible trouble to have of course :)

If that is the lens set up he's going to keep. If he had a Nikon 14-24 or one of the wide Zeiss lenses I would suggest he keep the 5D.

Here is another vote for keeping all three. I also suggest replacing the 300mm with the 500mm. :D
