I have only used this in a limited capacity and have the Kenko ones. As there is no 'glass' I think you can get away with not having to buy the best, ie Canon for Canon/Nikon for Nikon IMHO. Mainly used in Macro work, I have also used them with the 500mm to and worked OK. I have seen a shot in the Avian with this combination and the quality was stunning!!!
Pros/Cons non that I can see, but have only used this in small doses. If you can afford it, go for it, but where do you intend to use it, Macro?
Best to qualify first. ;)

I have a set of the Kenko Extension tubes and have used them for years with my Canon's. I have found that they work just as well as the Canon Extension tube that I had. There is no glass to worry about and as long as the electronic connections match up with your camera, you should be happy with them. They are much more reasonable than the factory extension tubes..

I have a Canon EF25II and have only used it once with the 500MM. I was able to close the focal distance not sure how much (sorry). It is light weight and has a nice protective bag for easy carry for those times.

Like the others have said, you will love Kenko as they do the job at the right price. I have been using them for years on Canon stuff.
Would stick with Canon since they are metal, Kenko tubes are plastic and they will bend ... not a good thing. I usually carry three 25mm tubes and stacking would be a problem.
I use the Canon 500D close up lens for some macro work. I am very much a beginner so don't know if this takes the place of extension tubes or is just one more tool.

Hi Deborah The 500D is totally different, it magnifies the image and are difficult to use since working distance is narrow. Extension tubes allow you to get closer to the subject and can be used with most lenses !! Good to have a couple.
There will be some light loss and will get some magnification (little) !!! Easy to use !!

I had a 25mm Kenko Extension tube a couple of years ago that worked fine with a couple of my cheap canon leneses. I used it once in a while to get closer to flowers and other macro subjects, but when I tried it on my Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens the IS was making a lot of noise. It did not want to work correctly with the IS. The extension tube was a few years old so maybe a newer Kenko extension tube would work just fine, but when I get the money for a new extension tube I am going to buy one from Canon just to be safe.
Another vote for Kenko tubes and I also use their 2X TC as it is non intrusive and fits all my lenses.
... I'm not talking about fit or performance, when you hook up a two or more they will flex !!! btw on the Nikon side they are actually better since the camera will AF !!!
