It's cold

Hummingbirds definitely do not like the snow. Yes, that is a large snowflake and ice on the feeder as well. I was the sole shooter the last afternoon of the McDonald's workshop in Madera Canyon last week. I had a large umbrella and good poncho to keep me dry. The birds were very busy, but the wet, heavy snowflakes were really making them work hard to feed.
