White Handed Gibbon Looking Back

This digital image, of a White Handed Gibbon, was taken at Lion Country Safari. It was modified to reflect the passage of time of an Ektachome image, which was taken with a simple P&S Kodak camera in the mid past century. Many family images were trusted to Ektachome, due to its added speed over Kodachrome, with similar results.

Besides the looking back in time, this image has the Gibbon looking back at you. ;)

Modifications in CS4 included; Vibrance & Saturation, Hue & Saturation, Colored Spotlight, Lens Flare and an overlay layer with defects from an old photo.

Mark, I haven't seen you use lens flares before. I might try to illuminate the face or define the face a bit more. I like the way the mat board looks.

I haven't used that before as I personally try to avoid them! :( But given the theme and intent of this image, I felt that it would be very appropriate to add the effect that the average photog would have had shooting this image with a pre-coated lens camera. Also the back lighting of the Gibbon suggested that an added backlight would be appropriate.

I tried to bring out the face more, but kept going over the edge with it. Also the added effects cut it back more. But when I saw the final image, I thought that was just an added point to the subject intent. The BL would have minimized the facial lighting and the age would have degraded the image in that area as well.
