Black Rapid Camera Strap

Randy Stout allowed me to try out his "Black Rapid RS-7" Camera Strap and I loved it.

I broke my neck 10 years ago and since then I could not comfortably use a camera strap.
A conventional strap round my neck is uncomfortable, on my shoulder it feels unsafe and across my body it is too slow.

I use the Black Rapid across my body. By design the camera stays close to your body and with very little effort it will slides up for use.

I purchased the RS-7.

Love mine too - even carry a 500 F4 setup at times. 500 has a 4th Gen replacement foot and I attach the RS-7 by using a Kirk QR clamp.

Mine worked great with the Nikon 300/4
Can't use it with the Canon 100-400, it keeps getting unattached and I'm afraid of it dropping my lens on the ground :eek:

I have been using two for a year now....add a Kirk 1 inch clamp to the RS-7 and it is the best STRAP currently available IMO.

I have two of the RS-4's for about a year and they have worked very well.

Fabs if you have one of the original ones they have changed the connector on them.

I have a Kirk lens plate on the 100-400 and attach the RS-7 with the same QR clamp used on the 500 F4.

In both cases I rotate the foot to the top of the lens - makes it very easy to lift the 500 and put my left hand under it for hand held shots. You have to adjust the RS-7 strap rather long to be able to get the 500 and camera up to your eye.

I'm not sure why Fabs is having difficulty with the 100-400. No problem here in two years with 100-400, 70-200 2.8, 300 2.8. No one who has tried my RS-4 hasn't ordered one.

Thanks for the information re the RS-7. I watch the video and this is what I have been looking for to hold my camera and 150-500 while I am hiking. The strap That came with the 150-500 hurts my neck and since I also carry a binoculars my neck get sore. I cannot wait until my order arrives:)

I picked up a BR strap when they first came out a few years ago. Primarily used it for wedding work, but found it works great for day hikes if you just want to bring along a camera but don't want to mess with a tripod. Sometimes I'll sling the camera with my Sigma 50-500mm, and use a monopod as a walking stick. If I see something worth shooting and want a little support I'm in business. Great set-up when you're priority is the hike/exercise but don't want to miss a photo op.

I use the Double R... double strap, for wedding and event work these days. Absolutely the easiest way I've found to carry two cameras at once. Would probably work well on a day hike if one had a reason to want to carry two cameras.

I'd like to pile on in recommending the Black Rapid straps.

Most of us here spend a lot of time with long lenses, so walking around with a short lens is a different experience.

I was helping on a photowalk in St. Augustine with Rick Sammon, and a neck strap was driving me crazy.

Put on the Black Rapid RS-4, and it made the walk much more fun, and easy. (Well, I did have to learn to take images of people instead of birds!).

In warmer climes I tend to like the RS-4 and RS-7 better, as the RS-5 is kind of thick and hot due to its extra storage pockets.

Black Rapid has told me that they are coming out with a strap with a specially designed curve for female photographers later this summer as well.

Really enjoy mine as well - my challenge was that I found the function wheel on the top of the 50D kept spinning out of the setting it was in because the camera brushed against my hip when I had it slung over my shoulder. No mas.

What is also nice, is that I can still use my binocs in what my kids call my "Binoc-a-bra" set up.:D I can easily grab camera or binocs without getting tangled.

I installed a heavy weight split ring on my camera's normal strap bracket and a snap on the RS4. Now I have my tripod socket available all the time.

I agree with Chas, got the ideal from him (Kirk 1 inch clamp) and carry the 7D & 400MM 5.6 easy. Had to get use to it but now carry it often.
