Need ID
This landed in front of me when I was out at Bosque this past November. It was larger than any of the Hawks I have seen in Florida, so I initially thought that it might be a juvenile Eagle of some sort. A few of my friends could not ID it, but they sent it around and I recently sent it to Judy Lynn who researched it with Smithsonian info. She and a photographer in TN think it could be a Harlan's Hawk.

I'm not an ID expert but it looks like a Ferruginous Hawk. Let's see what the experts have to say.

Hi Ken. My best guess would be an immature Red-tailed Hawk based on the belly band. Lets see what the BPN experts say.

Juvi red tailed, typical hunting behavior.
