Pelican Take-off

This is same brown pelican I posted couple of days earlier. After many misses, I finally got few with proper head definition while panning. Although the focus was slightly off the head, I still liked this one for the blurred wing pattern. The settings were -

7D, Sigma 50-500mm @ 266mm hand held
1/8 sec, f/16 Mode: Tv Metering: Evaluative Exp comp: +1/3 ISO: 100

Selectively used level to lighten the body and the head. Used s/h to bring out a bit more definition of the wings. Applied Denoise and usm on the final web version. Hope you like it. Your C&C will be appreciated...

Indranil, I think it looks great. You can get a real sense of motion looking at the wings. The head and body have just enough detail and the feet really do add a lot to this.:)

Indranil, I love the sense of motion that this imparts. It really evokes the effortless movement of a pelican in flight - and I love those feet :D

Outstanding blur, Indranil! The blurred wings give it a wonderful sense of motion, and just enough detail in the head and body. Well done.

Love the wing blur. I think that the problems started with the exposure compensation. I have found the two 7D bodies that I have used to be more like MIII and MIV bodies than like 40 and 50D bodies, in other words, the 7D, the MIIII, and the MIV need about a stop more light then the pro-sumer bodies in the same light. I might have started here at +2 rather than +1/3 with the dreary conditions.

Indranil, I love the wing blur and the detail in the body of the bird. I've had my 7D for a couple of months and can hardly wait for Artie's User guide:)

Thanks Artie for all your suggestions. I have been noticing the difference compared to my earlier 40D and still working on the correct compensation. I will try the +2 and try again.
