I have one for my 500mm but prefer the tuppermaid solution or the Lenscoat neoprene lens cap. I had a problem with my lenscoats on my 500 and 600 rolling up on the hoods and getting distorted when putting the lenses in my kinesis bags. The LensCoat neoprene caps solved the problem and I no longer use the Zeck cap.
I bought one before he put the handles on the back. It's a great lens cap, with or without the handle.

I have one for my 500/4 and I really love it! The leatherette hood that came with my Canon drives me crazy when taking the lens out of my Lens Trekker. Also, you can use the DZ lens cover when you have the hood on so its convenient when hiking in blowing snow for a little added protection.
A question for you guys using the Zeck cap, can you stand the lens on the hood end with the Zeck cap installed?
Yes, as long as you do not have the handle riveted in place. The handle is included with the cover, however it is not installed, as it is up to you if you wish to install the handle or not. I have the handle installed on the cover for my 500 and it stands, although not well.
I reread your question and yes, when the hood is in the shooting position on the lens, the cap is actually inside of the hood, mounted in the lens itself, allowing the lens to stand on the hood as normal. This is why I have the handle riveted in place, as it allows me to reach inside the hood and remove the cover from the lens.
I STILL HAVE ABOUT 50 EA. CORNINGWARE HOOD COVERS FOR THE 500 AND 300 LENSES.
Drop me an e mail if interested.

I have the 500MM lens cover Chas mentioned, it works well for me.
