I have noticed that some people list their camera's firmware version when posting images. I have a Canon 20D and a 40D, and have never connected the cameras to my computer. Do I need to update the firmware? What happens if you don't do this?

All you do is download the updates to your respective CF card using a card reader. Insert the card into your cameras slot and install. You need to access the firmware version from your camera menu to install from the card to the camera.Quote:

The most recent firmware version for the 20D is 2.0.3 and for the 40D it is 1.1.1
Its an easy update - read the instructions on the firmware page. Note that a freshly charged battery is a requirement; having the camera die in the middle of a firmware update means a trip to canon.
Thanks for the info Mike, Axel, and Donald. I will check into this. I also have an AC adaptor so the battery won't die during the process!
