Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure how effective this looks on a screen but I quite like it as a print. My husband was not so sure...
What do you think? :)
I took this image of a black skimmer in Florida a few weeks ago. It was taken in colour and converted to black and white. I took the cyan and blue sliders to the right and then painted out a couple of remaining patches. The light was almost gone, so the bird was already blurred.
Look forward to your thoughts!
Best regards to all,
Nicki

Nicki, I love the look you have produced here. I would have put the bird more to the right but this is interesting as presented. A very nice abstract!:)

Nice creativity Nicki! I agree with Denise, moving the bird to the right seems to make conventional sense. I really like that the wings are "chinese brush stroke", bamboo leaf strokes to my eye!

Denise and Dan, thanks so much - I'll tell my husband what you have said!!! :D
I'll look at it for a while and decide where the bird needs to be placed. Dan, I can see why this reminds you of a Chinese brush stroke painting!
Best regards,
Nicki

If that beak weren't there I'd think you had lost your mind but that instantly says "skimmer" to me. GREAT abstract, Nicki!
BTW, how did the show go? With the b&w bird images?

You always have interesting POV's Nicki. Good for inspiration (for me anyways). Like the abstract and agree with D about the placement.

Very interesting image, Nicki. Personally I think I'd prefer a little more detail, but not a lot more. I really like the brush stroke look to the skimmer. Ditto on the placement.

Nicki,
Greetings. I really like this... black watercolor brush strokes ... just add a red stamp (as in Japanese or Chinese calligraphy)... I also like how the form is suggestive of a fish.
Cheers,
-Michael-

Simply lovely Nicki! I would love to see it with the subject moved up and right a bit, but as Mark says - "your vision". :) Agree that the addition of a "chop" would put this over the top!!

Hi Michael and Kerry,
Thanks so much for your very kind words, and yes, I agree that it needs to be moved up and right in the frame. Great idea about the chop - now where's Dan Brown when I need him...:D
Best regards,
Nicki

Hey Dan, great to hear from you and thanks so much for taking the time to do the chop...:)
Where can I learn to do this - it looks REALLY cool :D
Hope that all is really well with you!
