For this image, I wanted to imitate the through-the-viewfinder effect, which involves taking a photo while looking through the viewfinder of an old film camera. I don't have such an old camera, so I created a texture from scratch that I felt resembled the effect and used it as an overlay. I also converted the image to a tritone using one of my blue-grey presets to help create the cold, desolate feel that I wanted. Any comments and suggestions would be most appreciated.

Christopher, This is a great idea for the theme. I love the composition and the textured BG. I feel like the vignette is a bit stong on the edges-but let's see what others say. The cold, desolate feel is really working here.

Very powerful. You have conveyed the emotion with the bare minimum of information. That is art.

Normally, I'd say the vignette was too heavy here as well but...it really kinda works in isolating the leaf. It's far enough away that the leaf has its own space but it's right there, letting us know how "dark" the rest of the world is. I think it's very creative and really expresses the emotion. Nice work!

Love the minimalism, Christopher. And the heavy vignetting for me does concentrate attention of the focal point (subject), plus adds to the melancholy. Certainly not a candidate for the current weekly theme! K

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Much appreciated! I wasn't sure about the heavy vignette myself at first, but lightening it seemed to detract from the feeling that I wanted.
Kora, the current theme is "happiness or sadness," so this image does fit. :)

I must need new glasses, Christopher. I didn't see the 'sadness' part:) Kora

Excellent composition and very well seen and planned out. This image really communicates. Personally I might like the whites just a tad bit whiter but only if it didn't spoil the mood.
