Can some of the experts that mount their flashes off the camera on brackets confirm that there is full ETTL functionality? So one can still dial in compensation? I have been advised by a photography expert that with the OC-E3 off Camera Shoe Cord one would not be able to control the power ratio through ETTL. That statement really does not add up to me.
Changing the exposure compensation can be done via the cable. Setting the power ratio cannot be set via the cable. The power ratio can be set directly on the flash unit (assuming it supports that feature) or via the ST-E2 Transmitter. Exposure compensation can be set on the camera in up to 1/3 stop increments and the flash will respond to the on-camera setting, via the cable.
Hi Akos, I am not an expert but here is what happened to me. I have a third party cord and it worked fine for manual flash work . I had never used it for ETTL. I purchased a big lens and a Wimberley bracket and when I hooked up my flash the ETTL and High Speed sync didn't work. It drove me nuts because I thought the camera or flash was broke. I purchased a Canon cord and all works perfect now. Not sure if that helps but thought I would share it.
