Hello,
Where is the cheapest place to buy a Canon battery for a 1Ds mkII? In Canada they want $240-$270 for a battery, like that is gonna happen! I appreciate your insights in this matter.
Thank you.

Try Ebay but the batteries for the 1 Series Pro cameras have never been cheap.

Try Amazon.com. There are some for less than $50. They are not OEM batteries, which are around $100.
They cost $109 at B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ttery_12v.html
and there are several for much less at Google Shopping, most of them not OEM, though: http://www.google.com/products?q=708...N&hl=en&tab=wf
I don't know how the newer batteries are but when I first got my 1D mkII N, I did some looking around on third party batteries and even though they said they were weather proof there were reports they did not hold up in moisture.

I think that is why I will buy the OEM batteries and not worry about quality control issues. Thank you everyone for your comments.

Lenmar is what i got, just as good as the canon imo and way cheaper, 40 bucks from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Lenmar-DMCE3-E...6713797&sr=8-3

If you read the reviews on that same page many suggest the fit may not be good and may not weather seal the camera.

I have not had any issues, used it in rain / snow without a problem, but of course anything is possible
I think I will go with OEM and chalk the difference in price up to insurance and peace of mind.

IF you can find localy the Proflash brand, they are exactly the same as the Canon one, they are made in Japan instead of the ususal Made in China (lenhmar include). Also they are wheaterproof like the Canon (rubber seal). In Montréal I buy them at $125.00 CDN instead of $240.00. The other option are to buy from american site for original Canon, as they are the same price but in US dollars, but you have to pay for the custom fee. Unfortunatly at B&H and Adorama you don't have the choice of the USPS service for shipping, wich don't charge exorbitant custom charge like UPS, Fedex and other.
