Hue Wash!

This is the result of panning on a bed of pinks (these flowers are called that!) of variety of colors. Minimal PP. Added a bit of noise. Thanks for looking.

Ramesh, The colors and the brush stroke look are awesome. I personally am not fond of the noise but that is a personal preference. I like the title also. Could you share w/ us your camera settings so those of us that want to try to reproduce this effect can try.

Thanks Mark and Denise. Here is the EXIF: D700, 105mm Micro VR, ISO 200, 1s, f/25, tripod mounted. I use an RRS ballhead. I picked a part of the flower bed that had a mix of colors and none was dominant.

As for the effect, I started the panning and then pressed the shutter. This gives a complete wash. If you click and start the pan, you get a light impression of the subject and panning comes as an overlay. That sometime is not bad in itself as it gives a different feel;-) Hope that helps.

Gorgeous! I even like the added noise and I don't often say that. Beautiful pan work and excellent pp. The colors really blend beautifully and it certainly DOES remind me of a bed of pinks!

Thanks a lot for your views. As for the noise, here is my take. With film, we could choose a high grain film and use the grain to add to the feel of the image. In digital world, manufacturers are improving the high ISO sensitivity of the sensors. Moreover, the high ISO noise is no where similar to film grain : it is clumpy. This has taken away another creative tool available to the photographers. Only recourse I see is to add grain in PP. I would be interested to know if other alternatives exist.

Here is the image without the noise/grain. I added grain for two reasons:
1. Grain gives the image a feel of painting on matte paper
2. Grains smoothen the blur and the result is easy on the eyes. please save both the versions and toggle the images. that will convey this aspect.

Ramesh, I appreciate your thoughts and your vision. This is a beautiful image with or with out the noise. I do prefer it w/o. But that is just my personal preference. I never shot w/ film so I can't really relate. I do think that the noise/grain adds a bit to the image and think it is such a lovely image that either way would be a winner.:)
