Joel:
Your bird is sharp, nice angle in the frame, well exposed.
The perch is a bit massive for him. The lower background(snow?) is so bright and detail less, that it is a bit distracting. Almost makes you feel like the image is upside down, with sky at bottom.
I suspect the highlights are blown here, and there is no detail to recover, but it might be worth a try reconverting with significantly less exposure on the lower background, and see if you can tease any detail out.
The bird looks a bit over saturated to me.
Keep them coming!

I like the pose and clarity. I don't have any problem with the white in the background; it isn't near being clipped. My main
adjustment would be to pull the reds way down. I don't really mind little birds on big perches, but it's easy enough to slim
this one down a little bit.
I think I would crop something like this ...

Nice and sharp and a really good pose. Repost looks very nice. Dave
Nice looking bird. Very sharp. Good pose. Agree with the comments about strong red cast. Would crop top and right. No problems with the perch.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I like the crop in the repost and trimming the perch is cool but I think the reds are a little too desaturated compared to how the bird looked to my eyes. The only thing I did was to crop, adjust levels and curves slightly and a light touch of USM (120/0.4/4) otherwise it's just how it came out of the camera. My 40D is set to Artie's specs.
