7D Colors ??

I purchased a 7D last October & returned it after a weeks shooting.
I was unhappy with color & had problems with (DR) dark shadows & blown highlights
in bright light. The camera worked well in low to moderate light but I never relay liked the color it produced. The image below was posted on another thread dealing with detail. It is a good example of what I did not like about the color of the 7D compared to
older cameras. I need another camera but at this point not sure what I should do-
MIV- try the 7D again- buy another 50D- The MIV price would be difficult.

The difference you see between MKII and 7D in the sample I posted is due to their white balance difference. You can always change WB or change the colors to your liking in Phototshop.

what ACR version where you using, raw / jpeg? picture style? what software? WB settings?

I know when the 7D first came out I had problems with Lightroom, since they released 2.6 its been fine

When I look at many images on the net I see examples of
what I am trying to describe. I can get the color close in PP but WHY-
I seem to be the Lone Ranger here so I guess it is me. Think I will buy
another 50D & when the dust settles take a hard look at the MIV.

they both look spot on to me, the first is stunning.

what do you have the auto lighting optimizer set to? maybe that is the problem

but I agree with Scott I dont see a problem in either of them

Colors look natural and good :)

Your images look good to me as well. Only thing I do to my 7D is turn down the red sat about -8 in LightRoom if there is a large amount of red - say a rose. Every one of my digital cameras over saturate reds and yellows.

Hi Tom, On my monitor the colors look pretty good and what I would expect to see in the field. I took both images into photoshop. setting the white and black points brighten the images up a little. I tied varies color correction techniques and in my opinion none of them seem to improve the colors. From my point of view I am not seeing a problem.

If you are shooting in RAW the Auto Lighting Optimiser should be turned off. See the complimentary thread in this forum

I find DPP provides the best RAW processing for the 7D.
I often use Neat Image instead of DPP for noise reduction, and perfer Photoshop CS4 smart sharpen.
Monitor is calibrated with a Spyder 3 Pro

No issues with color or dynamic range with the 7D.

Ed , Thks, i read the other thread, good stuff for sure. Is Jeff suggesting he shoots in a different picture style, if so what are you folks doing?
