Another difficult character to expose correctly with their red heads, and black plumage. I have checked the reds here and they are well within the limits. Taken in a nature reserve close to my house at the end of last year.

Good head angle, sharpness and eye contact. I might give it a bit more room top and right.

Great red bishop Stu, you are so right that they are not easy! Apart from the colours they always seem to lack sharpness when they puff their feathers, and they absolutely do not keep still- 1/1000 well selected. Like the overall sharpness and the colours, especially the shiny blacks. I would have opted for a tad more orangy-red, but that is personal preference. Like the HA and eye contact, he looks like a bossy little guy.

What a beauty of a bird! I wouldn't mind seeing it lower in the frame, and would try to tone down the lighter parts of the perch. Nice BG, and the vertical comp was the way to go.

How very rue I got a few shots recently in Karoo, but the reds are consistently blown, and are seemingly impossible to retrieve.
