No blown highlites on my end. I like the color tone of this image and the snow flakes add a nice touch. Color of the bird looks true. Maybe a tiny touch of sharpening needed on head?
Highlights in the tail do appear blown on my monitor.
It's a generally pleasing image, though!
The catch light suggests you may have used flash. Was that the case?
Head angled away and "steel-eye" caused by the flash are my main concerns here. I like the colours, exposure, and sharpness. Snowflakes add a beautiful winter element. I'd prefer a bit more room in front.
To answer your question...Some of the whites look close to blown to eye and a quick check in PS shows very minor clipping in the tail area.
I played with this one on PS for a while adding canvas in front and removing the steel eye, nothing big.
Lovely jay and setting. I would crop a tad on top.
Love the snow and the wintery feel, Mark. I would agree that the head turned away and the flashed eye detract from the image. More room on the left would improve the comp. :)
HL on the tail look a bit hot to me. Looks like you used a flash? If so, was it with a better beamer? I ask because it looks like the flash was condensed and looks like the flash mostly hit the bottom half of the bird. I do like the image overall though.
Overall, a real nice capture Mark. I would like more room on the left. The whites in the tail look hot to me. But love the setting and good detail in the bird. I also don't like the catch in the eye and often wonder with my own similar shots if I should try to reproduce a more natural light in the eye with image processing. (Have not got that figured out yet :)).
I'm a sucker for a jay shot.. Tail is blown.
If you used a beamer is it aligned ?
