I think you will find most people use manual or aperture priority. For example, I use manual when the light is difficult or a subject is moving in constant light but the background is varying. A bird flying in front of sky, shade and trees would be a case where manual would be good. If the subject is moving, say from sun into shade, then aperture priority works well, often with a spot meter on the subject. Auto iso is relatively new to DSLRs and I have not used it.
