While photographing at Elizabeth Morton NWR yesterday am, (with Artie, Louie, and Ted) a male cardinal chose this little rose branch that was sticking out of the snow to briefly land on. I anticipate that some may not like the curly q that intersects his tail, but that's the way it was, and my eye finds it acceptable.
Thanks to everyone here at BPN who has commented on my images and considered my comments on theirs. I have learned alot.

I think the tendrils are lovely !! Hi-key BG makes the cardinal pop for me. Would make a nice vertical also.
I see you had a backup Lou :)

Great color contrast, the perch with the curly plant is very interesting. I wish it did not intersect the tail. :)
Great winter feel.

I agree with Lou that the BG makes the cardinal pop. Very nice detail and colour. My only nitpick, to me the right end of the branch appears to end in mid air but seems too slender to extend this far without support.

Hi Joe
Thanks for looking at my image and for commenting. That's the way that the branch was. I removed nothing from this image. (except for a slight crop)

What impresses me most about this image, Grace, is the texture evident in the bright background.
The cardinal is beautifully exposed for sure, but that texture is the prize to my eyes.

Fantastic exposure control and a lovely image. It can work as a tight vertical with some more room top and bottom IMO.

Superb job Graze. The composition is really minimalistic and beautiful. Exposure is spotted on and the pose, eye contact and details are very good. Big congratulations for a fine image (I feel a lot of envy ;))
