Red Crowned Kinglet

Subject is to dark, but was trying to overcome bright spots on the perch. The critter wouldn't hold still for more than one shot at a time.

I don't know this bird, but it sure looks like it has a pronounced green color cast.

I might try to selectively sharpen the eye area a bit more.

I am Ok with the overall luminosity of the image.

I worked on the color balance and did selectively sharpen the eye and foot. The eye needs a bit more work, but my eyes are closing. :)

It's actually a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, just like the one I posted yesterday. The colors of the OP are more accurate than those of the repost. From a tech standpoint, I would have opened up by 2 stops and gone for more shutter speed (f/8 and 1/1600).

You did well to capture him at all. These tiny guys are very tough to get; as you say, they simply won't hold still. Concur with just a tad more selective sharpening.

Ruby-Crowned (not Red-Crowned) Kinglet

Thank You one and all for the C&C. Doug - enjoyed your photograph and the correction on the name. I knew better, but a Senior Moment. Randy - birds of the same species are different colors depending from where they came. Appreciate you trying to help. Bill - I tried different levels of sharpening. Seems either our equipment is different or our opinions on sharpness levels. I still appreciate your comments as my opinions are sometimes out of Wacke.

Doug, How did you come up with 8f at 1600. I checked with "The Art of Bird Photography" and was unable to determine a suitable exposure. I did stay long enough to get 45 exposures of different levels on this bird at different settings. Was unable to obtain one that I thought was appropriate.
