Chinstrap

Hi from Chile.
I was guiding in the Antarctica last month and in sunny day, near a chinstrap colony I manage to get this nice portrait of this amazing penguin specie. I tried to get the most of detail of the eye. I think the yellow contrast beautiful with the overall white of the scene. I hope you enjoy !!

A beautiful portrait Rodrigo. Your exposure is spot on with lots of detail in the blacks and whites. I like the lookback and eye contact. I would give a little more room at the top.

BTW which ship were you on? I was there for 6 weeks and just returned.

Lovely image Rodrigo. Like John I would like to see a bit more head room too.

I like the head angle and the whites look very good, too. I could also see this as a vertical crop. Keep them coming, it's always a treat to see these southern species!

Very cool portrait, Rodrigo. The exposure is excellent with plenty of details on both black and white tones.

Its always fun to see such less-photographed species. Excellent exposure control given the harsh light.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I think I have a little space to give more room at the top; I will check the raw file. I was working at the Antarctic Shipping. If I'm lucky I will go back in February (jejeje). I have been going to the Antarctica for 3 years now, I it always gives you something new to see!!!!

Rodrigo- One way of giving a bit more room at the top is to create canvas and then clone some of your plain background into the new space. here's what I mean.

John, thanks a lot. I know how to do it, but I wanted to see if I could do it with the original file first.

For me the shot just makes you want to run your fingers through his fluff. This shot has great appeal --nits covered pretty much, so I won't add. As far as canvas I would vote for somewhere between the original and Johns.

FWIW--I almost never use a clone tool anymore.
