Crane Pair Take-off Blur

The trick here was to have the lead bird take off first to avoid potential merges. South winds are rare at the crane pools.

Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens with the EOS-7D. ISO 200. Evaluative metering +2/3 stop: 1/30 sec. at f/10.

I'm a big fan of blurs and the bird flight blurs that are captured at Bosque always have such a nice color tone to them. Very interesting and appealing image.

I love that the main bird is dragging his feet in the water...excellent sense of motion. I like the crop as is but I also think you could lose the reflection and still have a beautiful image.

Since I do want to get a handle on these...I like that you can see one complete wingbeat, the upturned primaries...I see the splashes at the feet, which give the sense of a running motion or movement.
I'd might remove 2nd bird..gold color seems to help the crane standout. Pleasing to the eye
I assume you don't pan camera?
I did try a blur today but totally bombed it..

There is not much reflection there but I love the water...

I did pan with the birds; that's what gives the pan-blurred background! I love the 2nd bird; that was the challenge and the reason that I like this one so much' it's the romantic in me.

Most of my blurs suck big time. It's great that you are trying some.

Thanks..Art..thats why they didn't work, I tried to shoot at low sh speed..but didn't pan camera

That will work at some shutter speeds like 1/125 the for example. At 1/30 or 1/15 it will create mush. There is lots on creating pleasing blurs in ABP II (916 pages on CD only): https://store.birdsasart.com/shop/ca....aspx?catid=32

Hi Arthur. I like this a lot and I too am a fan of the blurs. I just had my first Bosque experience (just missed meeting you by one day) and I have to say that the blurs are very difficult to get right! I did a few and will post some, but I can see that it takes a lot of work and skill to get a good one. Thanks for posting this one!
