This young lady Northern Pintail caught my eye at Bosque and this theme is perfect for her.
I used Topaz Simplify to get the painterly effect and some hue/saturation adjustments to get the colors I wanted.

Kerry I love the detail and the colors but am a little wary about the very bright areas on the wings...maybe tone them down a little or give them a golden glow like the underfeathers near the bill?
Thanks Julie, I did worry about those areas and toned them down but not enough. I tried painting in a couple of colors over the white, don't know if it made it any better. I'm not so good at free-hand painting!
Kerry, When I first saw this I thought the same as Julie. The repost looks good but I did like the funkiness of the original. Maybe just tone them down a little? Either way very nice treatment and composition. You really got alot of great images from your trip.Looking forward to more.
Nice rendering Kerry I might tone down the BG to let the bird really shine through. Looking forward to more Bosque images from you too. Was it cold???
Beautiful work, Kerry. Love the colors and the crop is perfect. I would suggest only toning down the whites a tiny bit because for me the white areas on the wing add to the image.
Jackie, I was there twice - once from 11-6 to 11-11 then again from 11-16 to 11-19. On the first leg, it was very cold in the morning then warmer during the day. When I returned a week later, it was extremely cold in the morning and cold and windy during the day. Good practice to have lots of layers and prepare for winter conditions!
Nice image and application, Kerry.
I like the first one, but would agree some tone down might help. But it is nice as is.
I like it, Kerry!
Kerry - I like the first one best. It looks like a bright Navajo rug!
