I took this image from a chopper while flying over Kilauea on Big Island. This particular cone is Pu`u `O`o. I took this image in 2001 by when all major activities on this cone were over although magma still flowed out of smaller vents and identified by the plumes of sulfur dioxide emission. I used DAP and adjusted the opacity. Also, applied layer masks to selectively apply saturation, levels and curves. Hope you like it...

We didn't get the Heli ride, but wish I had. Too many images on the ground and too little time to shoot them. :( But some great ones as well.

and tv. Like you processing and wish for a bit more "glow" at the hot area
Good timing to get this composition with the bit of landscape in the background UR. Your photo and treatment is a treat to see. I can't imagine how incredible it must be to see this from the air in person.
Thanks Denise. The plumes from the volcano creates a haze which makes it difficult to comprehend the colors and details from a single exposure. DAP and selective application of layers allowed me bring out some of those details.
Thanks Mark. Like you, I had some terrific time on the big island! There was not much volcanic activities when I was there and missed some of the grand shows when the magma hits the water. I hiked a lot on older craters wherever permissible. I hope to go back and repeat the same sometime in future.Quote:

Also a little highlight added the the steam along the rim in the hottest area.

Dave, thanks for the repost and i like it... I do not think i can better what you have done. I did use similar quick mask individually and applied levels but did not push it high enough.
