Ed, Very appealing image and the HK look adds to the feel for me. The surf is fantastic! If it were mine I'd evict the poles. Can't figure out where this is. Nice job!!
like the look Ed.....maybe a sightly lower viewpoint to have the surf breaking the horizon.
Still curious, exactly what component(s) of "Adjust" do you use?
Or maybe not. I was already on my knees in the wash. ;)
It varies. As I said somewhere on here before, I have just sort of integrated Adjust into my workflow. Most of the time I will just make adjustments in "Adaptive Exposure" and "Regions" and that's it. Sometimes I will play around with the presets and see if any give me an effect that I like. If so, I will use that preset as a starting point and make adjustments from there. In this particular case, I did start with a preset (I am blanking on which one at the moment) and made adjustments from there. But even when working with a preset, I usually find myself adjusting the "Adaptive Exposure" and "Regions" mostly. Depending on the preset, I will also sometimes adjust "Detail" settings.
Hope that answers your questions.
Hi, Ed. Fancy meeting you here!
I like this image. It has a watercolor quality that goes well with the scene. I can feel the movement of those waves--incoming and outgoing. Excellent work!
It looks like a soft pastel painting...love the wave action...well done...
Hey Ed,
Well, OK.....I will take another approach here......I love the waves/water/even most of the sand....hate the buildings.....yeah, yeah,.....scale and such......but I'm just trying to give you ideas for next time........the water curls and colors are off the charts.........you may want to play around with just them next time around.....more food for thought.
Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the comments, feedback, critiques. I thought it was basically a "fun" images. It wasn't what I went on the beach in search of but what was I came away with. I really wanted to create images that focused on the receding surf on the beach. You can get some way cool abstract patterns in the receding water. But I need some sort of anchor point and I wasn't finding it. A shell would have been nice but every time I placed a shell and pressed it into the sand, the surf would wash over it and take it away before I could get my image. I tried a small piece of driftwood and the surf wash it farther up the beach as it came in. So I figured what the heck, let me try some seascapes. As I think Denise can tell you (this was her backyard), the beach curves so the boardwalk building eventually come into view.
Do I mind the buildings? No. Would I rather that they not be there? Yes. I am one of those photographers who really prefer no people and no hand of man. But sometimes I have to concede.
In the final analysis, I thought the appearance of surf was such that it could carry the show in this image even with the buildings. From the responses here and on my blog, that seems to pretty much be the case. Besides, it's all you New Jerseyites that allowed all that development along the beaches! Next time I'll either go back to Sandy Hook or into IBSP. ;)
