Theme: waiting for the plane

Just got back from a trip to CA and found this woman dozing as we all waited for the plane in San Francisco. She was such a standout I couldn't help catching her in the camera. I don't think she is recognizable enough to cause problems with image permit problems. I started to crop her close but thought the whole atmosphere was needed to make the image viable.

1/100 sec. f 2.8 iso 400 no flash hand-held
post PS work with desat. / painting with black 3% opacity to shade some hightlighted areas. Blur at 100% in surrounding area to make her stand out. darkened selective colors. slight sharpening.

Hazel. I think you did a great job getting her to standout in the image. I like the blurring and selective sharpening too! I might take a large slice off the top to eliminate the ceiling area. You could also tone down the bright whites a hair. Very nicely seen and conveyed!!

Hi Hazel, I think Denise made a few good points regarding cropping some off the top(will make your center of interest stand out more) and toning down the whites in her outfit. Good use of DOF to bring attention to the subject...

Hazel I think you did a really good job on this one. Agree with suggestions already made. Good choice for DOF and has a nice feel to it.

While I don't travel as much as I used to and air travel is such a hassle these days, I still find airports absolutely fascinating places to people watch. You have gotten good advice above. I like the way the subject just pops out in this image.

Hazel, this is a really nice image and nicely presented. I agree about the crop but it's a very interesting image.

It's hard to know where to crop. I agree about there being too much ceiling, but I have that huge column and large data box to deal with. But if I crop too much I lose the effect of her contrasted with so many other passengers. What to do......

Hi Hazel, I think you cropped the image enough. Your center of interest is now much stronger...

Hazel, I would come down just a bit more(to just a bit above the top of the window pane on the left side). I am usually not fond of pano crops but feel the slight pano would work here to eliminate alot of distractions and help keep the focus on the very interesting subject.-not sure why you cropped the right side-that has cut into the man's head.

Thanks for the input. I'll work on it Also, my apologies for placding this in this forum. I don't have the printout with me because I'm away from the house this week, but somehow I thought the theme for this week was portraits. Guess I got it mixed up with something else. When I read the new notice I realized I must have made a big mistake. Won't happen again. Thanks again, though, for the input.

Hazel, No problem. The theme was originally portraits but got changed due to new forum rules. Sorry for the mix-up. But this image is a beauty and worth another try.
