About to get the 70-200mm 2.8 VR for my D300. What is the best converter 1.4 or 1.7 to get for BIF and wildlife and keep exceptable AF. Just starting to move up to better lenses. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks Kevin

Your f/2.8 lens takes both the 1.4X and the 1.7X very well. You loose more light and speed with the 1.7X but get more reach.
I'd have the two and use them as needed.
I use the 1.7 almost exclusively with my 70-200 VR and even hand hold with reasonable (~1/focal length) shutter speeds. I love it!
I too use the 1.4 and 1.7 with the 70-200. The 1.7 works surprisingly well and the light you lose through the viewfinder isn't that great. As I recall, when the 1.7 first became available, Nikon suggested that for light transmission, it was equivalent to 1.5.

I use the 1.7 with that lens as well as my 400mm f2.8. I am very pleased with the results on both. But I’m less impressed with it on my 200-400mm f4. I have not tried the 1.4.
Kevin...I have all 3 converters...on my 70-200, 1.4 and 1.7 work well. I like the results and reach with the 1.7
Thanks to everyone for their comments appreciated.
