Michael,
What is your impression of the "low noise at high ISO's" capability? Does meet or exceed your expectations?
To my eyes and expectations, your examples are VERY impressive!
My 7D arrived yesterday and I only had the time for a quick, backyard shoot from low to high ISO to get a basic impression. My first impressions were very positive so far.
If this camera can deliver noise-free images at ISO's of 800 or 1600, at 8 fps, and have a much improved AF system for BIF, then it's a winner for me!
Don, it's a step up from the 40d and 50d; not quite at the 5d Mark II level, but as you said, if we can get low noise shots esp. at ISO 800-1000 with bif; would be nice; haven't tested the focusing on birds yet.
These look better than our 40D and better than my 1DMK2. I just received my 7D as well and hope to have time for serious testing later this week. If these images are representative I am a happy camper!
I had an hour or two testing a Canon EOS 7D in dark overcast/misty rain conditions. I took this photo of a male blackbellied bustard making its territorial call at 1/85th second f5.6 ISO 1250 - with a 400mm f4 DO lens and 1.4x, resting on a bean bag.
I was very pleased with the quality and find the moody lighting suits this beautiful bird nicely. The 'grain' is, to me at least, quite acceptable. This photo has been cropped just a small amount from the original when producing the JPEG.
I also took a short movie clip of this bird - and once I have learned more about focussing in movie mode I am sure that I will find the movie capability to be extremely useful. The movie quality at full screen on my 17" Apple was excellent.
