Wild guess...branches or stems in water? I like the bottom 40% which creates 3 lines going outwards. The texture and shadows of the water(?) are pleasing. As I move to the backround the image becomes too busy for my taste.
I don't think it's branches. It looks like pond stuff . I'm w/ Dave on the composition. The bottom portion has some interest.
Looks like seed pods in water, with ice starting to form over them. Agree with Dave and Denise and would crop out the top portion, as I find it too busy and dark. The bottom is quite interesting.
I'm guessing ice formed on sticks on top of a frozen lake surface.
I like the "oddness" of the image but don't necessarily care for the BG or the fact that we don't see the point of origin on the FG twigs. I do very much like the B&W conversion!

It is kelp. Way to go Jackie. Craziest thing of all, I like it, even the BKGR. I tried to remove the strand lower left but could not do so seamlessly so I gave up.
