Which Wimberly lens plate is a better choice for the 500VR: P40 or AP533?
My new 500VR is making its way to home :) and I have a doubt about which kind of plate should be better for the use of the lens with the Wimberly Head II. I have been using the Wimberly P30 plate for my former 300VR and it worked flawlessly. Now I am going to order a new plate and I am debating between the Wimberly P40 and the AP533 (Arca Swiss replacement foot for the 500VR). Considering the cost of the lens, price differences between both plates are not going to take into consideration.
P40 can be used for other lenses, both Nikkor and other brands, and my experience with this kind of plates is very good but using a P40 involves a weight addition to the lens and a new part to the combo. The high profile allows a great handle of the lens.
The AP533 adds no weight or new parts to the combo but can´t be used with other lenses (exept with the 200-400VR). I am sure that performance is the same than in the case of P40. The low profile reduces handling of the lens but can help to increase lens stability. Isn´t it?
Which way to go?
Thanks
