How ostentatious. And I own the bloody thing. Of course, they are giving manual control of exposure, but not of audio levels. This means that the only way to defeat the "auto gain" is to buy the BeachTek adapter (just released, already sold out, and trading for $380) or to record sound separately. What a PITA!!!
Too bad, too, because some of the things you can do when combining stills and video (with audio!!!) in a presentation can be really powerful.
What really kills me is that, in response to user complaints about the lack of manual controls for exposure and audio, Canon's gut reaction was to yell at them "it's not a video camera!" And then, they produce a poster like this? Way to talk out of both sides of your mouth, Canon. . . . .
Hey, Jay,
Well, the "it's not a video camera, stop whining!" reaction was Chuck Westfall's :( But, maybe in another nine months, they'll give us audio levels... The image quality of the video that the camera can make is great. I think the people planning indie movies around it are a little nuts... Some of the products that have been made for the hard-core video crowd to hold the camera as though it were a traditional video camera are also off the wall...for instance: the RedRock "thing."
