Would look at the unit from Really Right Stuff A thing of beauty !!
I have used this for a couple of years and it is both affordable and very easy to use.

Hi Desmond, after researching I went with Bogen 454 (3419)micropositioning plate. Only 85.00 at B and H. Really Right Stuff is expensive. Same as mentioned in above post. It is sturdy and well made.
RRS has several nice options. Shooting "closeups", I often prefer a sliding rail vs. macro slider (no need for the very fine adjustment). I can tell you the kirk macro slider is junk!
I went with this RRS set 192-PPP; Mini-Clamp Package and MPR-192 I am happy so far
Hi Desmond,
Depending on your budget, you have the macro focusing rail made by Manfrotto and the one made by Really Right Stuff...I have both, and use both...the Really Right Stuff has better built qualities as far as materials used and the micro-click adjustments are more precise than the Manfrotto...both work well for me...You can't go wrong with either one...:)
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me, I will be more than happy to help you out...
