Good day all:
I am interested in the Nikon R1C1 macro flash setup. Although it isn't mentioned on the Nikon website, I have seen several non official mentions that it can't be used with zoom lenses, only the Nikon Micro lenses. It is unclear to me why that would be the case, since it comes with adapters to fit a variety of different lens sizes.
Does anyone have experience with this? Obviously, a rotating front element wouldn't work.

If the adapter fits I see no reason? The flash is designed for using up close maybe that is why the macro suggestion. Not sure what zoom would you like using it with? If you back out enough a regular flash will work just fine.

Thanks for the reply. For fast moving butterflies, I like the 70-200 2.8 with Canon 500D. On the D700, the working distance with that combo is 17". I have used a SB800, but wanted more flexibility on light angle, ratios, etc.

Hi Randy I've done the best for the moving Bflies using the 300 f4.0 btw the flash should cover 17 inches.
Always take the 500D on trips but don't enjoy using Much rather go with a macro lens !!!
