Good evening! He looks sharp and well exposed. Although small in the frame, I think that works well with the story you are trying to tell, adds to the impression of tough weather/hard times for the little guy. The background color/light adds to the effect.
For my taste, I would crop up above the lowest horizontal branches, and probably crop in just enough from the left to eliminate the buds that are cut in half in the LUC. Overall, I wish he was placed a bit more to the right in the frame, if you have some canvas to the left,so the buds weren't cut, but with what I see on the screen, that might not be possible.
Again, normally I would prefer him bigger, but it adds to his vulnerability, to be so small.

Thanks for the comments, unfortunately there is a large tree just behind the red maple, made the crop to the right impossible.
Yeah, I think Randy's comment re: appearance of vulnerability is valid. I don't mind it so small in frame, but for me it is a touch too centered. A touch of fill flash would have been helpful. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more images. :)
