I was looking around for a nice BG & found a piece of tree bark fallen on the ground. It had interesting textures on both sides. I have images using both sides as BGs. I decided to convert this to B&W (+ sepia) because even though BG had good texture, it was bit bright. And I thought of using channel mixer to annul the BG bark + highlighting the yellow flower (oh yes, the flower was yellow). I intentionally kept the BG dark with some burning since the size of flower was pretty small in the frame & if it had to be emphasized, the other regions must lose some brightness.
I have not added any texture in PP since I thought the bark offered some good texture on its own. I saw some lovely posts here using PS textures & I am surely intrigued to try them out on future images.
P.S. I shall post the colour version (against the reverse side of the bark as BG) soon... :)

Kaushik, The composition is beautiful-I really like the textured bark in the BG, I think highlighting the bud is just perfect!!

Hi Kaushik. This is a really impressive image. It's very stark and strong. I agree that the highlight on the bud really tops it off. I tried blocking off just a touch of the top of the image and it felt even stronger to me, but that's just my opinion. It is very powerful as it is. Regards

Very dramatic and I really like your B and W conversion getting some really black blacks. Nice textures playing off each other. I wonder if a bit thicker white line would give more separation between the frame and subject.

You are a man after my own (texture-loving) heart! Gosh, the texture in this really overrides any need for color...it's so lovely and you did an outstanding job getting it to come out perfectly. That flower would have been lost in any other scenario but you got it to be a standout. Nicely done, Kaushik!
